All students must first successfully complete the online MITx MicroMasters credential at their own pace before applying to MIT for the blended Master’s program. The MicroMasters credential requires learners to pass five rigorous online courses, along with accompanying in-person proctored exams for each course, offered at Pearson Vue testing centers around the world.

Ph.D. in Economics Graduate Admissions Profile Admission is based primarily on four factors: Mathematical ability and training as evidenced by courses taken in mathematics and related subjects, grades in those courses, and the quantitative GRE score.

The GRE has three sections: Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical. High GRE scores, especially in the Quantitative section, will further strengthen a good application. Most successful PhD Economics applicants have scores of 166 or more in the quantitative section. Applicants must enter their full and percentile GRE scores for all three sections.

MIT has a number of established interdepartmental programs, and there are many more opportunities for students to arrange interdepartmental programs with interested faculty members. All MIT graduate degree programs have residency requirements, which reflect academic terms (excluding summer).

PhD Without GRE This increase comes from the fact that modern PhD programs that don’t require GRE scores might admit students on the merit of their work experience. That’s great news if you have been out of school and on-the-job.

The University of Michigan is fairly competitive for graduate applicants. The average GRE scores for UM graduate programs range from about 155 to 165 for Verbal and Quant, or the top 5-40%. (In general, Quant score averages will be higher for science- and math-based programs, while Verbal averages will be higher for arts and humanities programs.).

ADDITION: My original answer missed “for a PhD,” but the answer remains the same - easy for those who get in, impossible for anyone else. If you graduated from a top flight program in your field, maybe have experience in the field, have done some.

If you requested that ETS send your scores prior to submission of your application, it can take up to one week from the time you submit your graduate application for scores to be electronically matched.

Prospective applicants can apply to the Ph.D. Program in Economics using the following options that can be found on the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website. Please be aware the application deadline for the Economics Department Ph.D. program is December 15, 2019. On-line applications are accepted by the Yale Graduate School.

The economics department will make admissions decisions independently, so application to or admission to other programs will not adversely affect admissions decisions within the Economics department. If you opt to apply, please note, the Graduate School will not accept more than three applications from any individual during the course of his or her academic career.
